From the Banks of the Neches: Why Your Voice Matters in the Fight Against Flooding

If you’ve ever stood ankle-deep in water where your yard used to be, you already understand the stakes.

In Southeast Texas, flooding isn’t a news headline. It’s a lived experience. It’s the memories of furniture on cinder blocks, sandbags at the door, and that quiet panic when the rain doesn’t let up. It’s the stories passed from neighbor to neighbor after each storm: “We got lucky this time.” “That ditch still hasn’t been cleared.” “They’re never going to fix that road.”

But what if we could do more than brace for the next one? What if we could build a regional flood plan that actually reflects the voices of the people who live here?

That’s what the Neches Regional Flood Planning Group is trying to do, and they need your help.

A short public survey is now open to gather your input on what matters most:

  • Where flooding has happened

  • What problems haven’t been addressed

  • What solutions you think make sense

  • How local governments and agencies can better prepare

It’s not technical. It’s not complicated. It’s your story. Your experience. Your chance to be heard.

It takes 2–3 minutes. That’s it. A chance to shape the future.

Because here’s the truth: If we don’t speak up, the plan will be built without us. And we’ve seen what happens when that’s the case.

At AlphaTex, we exist to close the communication gaps between decision-makers and communities. To make sure the lived reality of Southeast Texans is at the heart of every plan, policy, and emerge

This is your moment to plug in, speak up, and be counted. We’ll keep pushing from our side. You bring your voice from yours.

Share this with someone who’s been through it. Add it to your neighborhood group chat.

Let’s make this plan something we can all stand behind.
